Double eyelid tape is a small curved strip that sticks to the upper eyelid and creates or deepens a crease when you open your eye. To apply it, clean and dry the lid, find where you want the crease, place the strip along that line with tweezers, and press it into place. Then look straight ahead to check that the fold forms evenly. Clean skin and correct placement are what make it hold and look natural.
Who uses eyelid tape?
- People with monolids who want a visible crease.
- People with hooded lids who want a more lifted, open look.
- People with uneven creases who want both eyes to match.
- Makeup artists, to change the shape of the lid for a look.
It is a temporary cosmetic effect. It lasts while the tape is on, and washes off at the end of the day.
Types of eyelid tape
| Type | What it is | Look |
|---|---|---|
| Single-sided strip | A crescent with adhesive on one side | Lifts the lid above it. Visible if not covered with makeup |
| Double-sided strip | Adhesive on both sides. The lid folds and sticks to itself | A deeper fold, hidden inside the crease |
| Lace or mesh tape | A fine, breathable mesh strip. Many are activated with water | The least visible, and it takes makeup over the top |
| Fiber or thread | A thin stretchy thread pressed into the lid | A fine, sharp crease |
Check the directions that come with your tape for how it is activated and applied.
How to apply it, step by step
- Cleanse the eyelids so they are free of oil, moisturizer and makeup. Dry them completely.
- Find your crease line. Look straight ahead into a mirror and press gently on the lid with the forked tool or the end of the tweezers, a few millimeters above the lash line, until a fold forms where you like it. Note that position.
- Pick up one strip with tweezers, holding it by the end.
- If your tape is water-activated, wet it as the directions say and wait a few seconds until it turns tacky.
- Look down slightly, so the lid is smooth.
- Place the strip along the crease line, center first, with the curve following the shape of your eye. It should not touch the lashes.
- Press along its length for a few seconds.
- Open your eye and look straight ahead. The skin above the tape should fold over it.
- Adjust. If the crease is too high, too low or lopsided, lift the strip and try again a millimeter away.
- Repeat on the other eye, at the same height.
- Apply eye makeup afterward, if you wear it.
A lace mesh tape with tweezers
The Uexim invisible lace double eyelid tape is a lace mesh tape for creating a defined eyelid crease, with a transparent design that blends in for a subtle, everyday look. The set includes 360 pieces in size M, with tweezers for application, and comes in three options, A, B and C.
How do you make it look natural?
- Keep the crease modest. A fold three to five millimeters above the lash line suits most eyes. Very high creases look obvious.
- Trim the strip if it is longer than your lid. It should stop short of both corners.
- Follow your eye's own curve.
- Use matte eyeshadow over and around the tape. Shimmer highlights its edge.
- Add eyeliner and curled lashes to draw attention away from the lid.
How do you make it stay on?
- Oil is the enemy. Cleanse well, and skip eye cream in the morning.
- Dust a little translucent powder on the lid before applying.
- Do not touch the adhesive with your fingers.
- Press and hold for several seconds.
- Avoid rubbing your eyes during the day.
How do you remove it?
- Do not pull it off dry. Eyelid skin is thin.
- Wet the lid with warm water, or press a cotton pad soaked in makeup remover over it for a few seconds.
- Slide the strip off gently from one end.
- Cleanse away any adhesive, and moisturize the lid.
Safety and skin care
- Patch test on your inner arm first if you have sensitive skin or adhesive allergies.
- Do not use tape on broken, irritated or swollen lids.
- Remove it before sleeping.
- Give your lids regular days off. Daily wear and removal can irritate or stretch delicate skin.
- Stop using it if you notice redness, itching or soreness, and see a doctor if it does not settle.
- Use each strip once.
Frequently asked questions
Does eyelid tape work on hooded eyes?
It can lift the fold and show more lid. Results depend on how much skin sits over the crease. Heavier hoods may need a stronger or wider tape.
Is eyelid tape visible?
Mesh and double-sided tapes hide best. Any tape shows less when placed in the crease and covered with matte shadow.
Can I wear it every day?
Many people do. Remove it gently, and rest your lids if they become irritated.
Does it create a permanent crease?
No. The effect lasts only while the tape is on.
The bottom line
Clean, dry lids. Find the crease line, place the strip center first with tweezers, press, and check with your eyes open. Remove it with water or remover, never by pulling.
